What to do with my dog?

I got my 12 week old dog 2 weeks ago and my aunt was going to doggy sit when I return back to work my 12 hour shifts. I usually work 3-5 12 hour shifts per week. Well my aunt can no longer do it and I’m stuck. To get a doggy sitter or walker in my area its around $600 a month. To put her in doggy day care it’s around $700 a month. I don’t want to pay that, neither do I want her to be home alone. Any suggestions?

See if there is a neighbor you can trade off with- they help you during your 12s and you help them on your days off.

For the Summer, consider hiring high school students. Gotta be cheaper than the official dog sitters/walkers.

How big is your dog? My little sweetheart was a mini, smaller than cats. I litter trained her. It was great! No worries if I stayed past my shift about coming home to a mess, no having to take her out in the rain, and she had my cats to socialize with. She even became bilingual and meowed ?

Davey, why do you keep posting that, and what does it mean? It's kind of ***ing creepy

If you will be working 60 hour weeks, you don't have time for a dog. They are pack animals ... and want to be with their owners. $700/month for day care is cheap. I would re-home the dog.

I've always had two dogs so they have company when I'm gone for a 12 hour shift.  They have a doggie door and are paper trained as well.  I don't think I would be able to leave a single dog alone for that long.

Agreed. Give your dog a friend and access to the backdoor and they won't be miserable the entire time that you're gone. I'd also try going to the dog parks and making friends. A lot of people share similar problems with dogs and you can find a lot of solutions by networking. Just be willing to return the favor.

According to sociologists, artists have an important role in any society and that is to give alternative perspectives to our conventional notions on how we live. My post is not conventional, but it does convey a non-concrete message and the interpretation is left up to the recipient.

We often interpret benign abstract art, as with this simple monochromatic image, in terms of how we feel about ourselves.

I am an nurse and hubby is a medic.  We are both gone for long hours but all 3 of our fur babies are litter trained, have tons of food, water, and toys to keep themselves occupied until one of us gets home.  That can be really daunting for a new puppy though.  It also can cause serious separation anxiety as well (not sure of your breed)  Hope you can figure it out... there is nothing more satisfying than to come home to 3 smiles and wagging tales ❤️

She is a shorkie, I sinced found another person to watch her. Thank you for you advice.

Why would you get a dog when you work that many hours? It doesn’t sound like you thought things through very well. Dogs are like children that never grow up.

Some time back a poster asked if they could concievably take an emotional support dog to work with them. When asked for more detail the OP stated that they didn't really need a support dog but they were afraid the dog would be lonely all day. So in essence they were going to be the dog's emotional support person.

One should not take on the responsibility of a pet (Dog, cat, hamster, crocodile etc...) unless they are fully prepared to care for that animal. But in this case what's done is done. I have always crate trained my dogs but would not want to crate my dog for 12+ hours a day. If the OP lives close enough perhaps thay could go home mid-day to allow the dog to relieve themselves. Another option as this is Summer is to engage the services of a high school student to mind the dog for a set dollar amount per day.

My current dog is under going training to be a therapy dog and it is my hope that I will be able to take her to work at least 1 day a week. Still I have a big yard andshe is not confined indoors during the day.

Best of luck
