It means that it's not a degree program. You have to already have your Bachelor's degree in nursing to take the classes because they are graduate school level. However, it's only a handful of classes so what you get in the end is a certificate that you can show to future employers showing them that you have further education in Informatics BUT do NOT have a degree in that field. To get a Master's in Informatics, many many more classes are needed. The biggest difference is that the Master's program is also a Master's in Nursing so you have a lot of nursing classes (ethics, nursing theory, etc.) whereas if you do the certificate program, you'll just take the Informatics classes and that's it. So as far as Informatics goes, you'll have taken the same computer classes as the nurses with Master's in Nursing Informatics.
Some people can get jobs with just the certificate in Informatics, while other companies might require a Master's degree.
Make sense?
yup.
