Hi there,
I am just needing some career advice. I am in my fourth year of BScN in Ontario, and although I have enjoyed it, there are some aspects of nursing that I do not particularly like. I would like to pursue a career outside of the hospital maybe, or in mental health/ addictions (i have my placement in mental health at the moment). Although I love patient contact/communication I sometimes find difficulty in performing skills day in and day out and do not think that would make me happy to do bedside nursing (eg. on a medsurg floor, or in the ER/ICU). so my question is: is it ok to pursue a career in public health or mental health right off the bat after graduating? Or is that a mistake... should I work in a hospital first? Are there other avenues outside the hospital that I should be looking into? I was thinking about getting a social work degree after graduating. Are there other graduate programs that you would recommend that are similar to nursing (eg. helping people) but do not necessarily involve the skill aspect?
Or should I just think about pursuing a career in social work instead....
Thanks for your input :)
