Hi! I am new to allnurses. In May I am graduating from my two year RN program and I have only a few weeks to apply to a RN to BSN program. After graduation I am moving to Philly with my husband. Picking a RN to BSN program is proving to be harder than I originally thought. My end game is to apply to be a CRNA once I have the experience (years down the road). Does it matter which RN to BSN program I attend? Will one program help me over another? I have applied to Rutgers and Drexel. I missed Temple's deadline but going to apply just in case. I am afraid the cost of some of these programs will cause me to take out loans and I'd rather not if I don't have to; however, if it helps me in the long run than I will do it. Does anyone know if certain RN to BSN program will help me achieve my goal to be a CRNA or does it not matter and what are the better ones out there?

This is me just repeating things I've heard from people in CRNA programs / recent CRNA graduates. I have no interest in being a CRNA so, just repeating. Yes, where you went to school may matters. However, in most cases, somewhere like Rutgers or Drexel would be fine. GPA matters. I recently heard the CNO of a hospital that has a CRNA program say something like, "I'm not saying you need to have a 4.0 to apply, but you should have a 4.0 to apply." Most people I've heard talking seem to think their degree from a well-respected school is "fine," and that GPA is more important than where it's from, as long as it's well respected (state school or respected private school). Most people I've heard discuss CRNA programs also seemed to think that having a BSN from a for-profit would not benefit them.
