I have decided that I want to return to the wonderful world of working contract at Corrections facilities. I have not yet worked in California corrections, and expect it to be a bit different from my state. I am sure there is a bit of a learning curve like any place else. What agencies do you know of that handle correctional assignments in CA? I have seen some ads, but there doesn't seem to be one agency that stands out as far as assignments. Some are (apparently) smaller agencies in CA, and some are larger nationwide agencies. Just looking for some suggestions on who is good/bad, who gives decent pay, etc. I have worked for several agencies in the past, and know that the way they treat their nurses can vary quite a bit. Many thanks for any information.

Two that immediately come to mind are Supplemental Healthcare Staffing and R.L. Klein. Most of the travelers come through local agencies (local meaning San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, etc.) instead of the nationwide agencies. I don't know the names of those agencies but imagine you could find them easily online. Is there a certain prison you want to go to? I do know that some do not take taxes, social security, etc. out and that the nurses will be left to pay taxes on independent contractor status (very high tax rate); others take the taxes out for you. I am not making a recommendation just letting you know the agencies that I am personally aware of.
Thank you for your reply. There are a couple of prisons I am more interested in than others, but mainly just want to travel on
a 3 1/2 month contract or so where they will guarantee at least 40 hours. I know that there are only certain agencies that have contracts with the California prisons. I run across some seemingly local agencies from time to time when looking through the job boards, but they don't seem to many contracts. I've been planning on doing a travel assignment and checking out corrections there for a long time, and it looks like I will finally get a chance to do it. I have never heard of the Klein, so I will look that up. Thanks for info!
