West Coast University- Nurse Practioner, Second degree

Published

I'm interested in West Coast University the obvious appeal that there is no waiting list. However here is my background: I have a bachelors degree from a UC already and want to eventually be an Family Nurse Practitioner. I was NOT a science major for my undergrad degree but since graduating about a year ago i've been taking science courses at community college. I want to get a move on school ASAP and i've done extensive research and compiled lists of possible entry level masters programs as well as accelerated bsn programs- all of which still wont gaurantee a spot for me. I graduated high school valedictorian but unfortunately college was another story- 3 deaths in the family within months of one another, my education suffered greatly due to the emotional stresses and i came out with a 2.9 gpa.

Questions for alumni of West Coast University:

1. how were your job prospects after completing the program

2. anyone who has decided to continue to do masters has this program helped or hindered you?

3. when do you sit to take your nursing board? is it after the first year or at the end of the entire program?

4. does completion of this program and exam allow you to practice outside of california?

Anyone have any insight or info on programs that might be good for me please let me know!

I don't have a lot of information about West Coast, but I was considering it a while ago until I found out I would not be able to transfer my classes anywhere else. Which means I would never be able to get a Masters after graduating from there. So you might want to check that out!

This school sucks they are unorganized and giant pricks. I have been a student there since 2009. Trust me when I say it is the Devry of Nursing schools. The instructors are good but administration is only worried about money and student services are lacking. The school tells us not to bad mouth the school because it will cheepen the degree but I don't care as long as I have my license I will have a job.I will just won't hang that diploma on my wall. They are not wasc accredited yet.and the program cost is $136000.00. Check out Western Govenors University .It's way cheaper and Wasc accredited.

So what, they don't have a waiting list. I go to West Coast University, and the only reason I decided to go here is because I thought it was the fastest track. I too have a bachelors from a UC and changing careers, although I now know was the right choice, has been really stressful. I want to be out of school and working already. West Coast University has not been helpful at all. In fact, I practically have to sit out a quarter (or term as they call it here) because.... You know what? I don't know why. They say the nursing classes are filled and even if there is a spot available they won't give it to me because4 it is unfair to other students. Obviously graduating their students as quick as possible is not a priority for them. At this point, I don't know what is. I am looking to transfer out of here asap. RIDICULOUS! Save your money.
