please post some advice if you are already in the nursing program like some strategies you used in various classes that have really helped you. Or anything positive you can share that can benefit some one else. I hear nursing is hard and i know some people have made it and please share some of those experiences for the new ones. Thanks

I am in the process of trying to make it. 2nd semester! So far, this is what I have learned.

  • Study hard and LOVE studying
  • Learn a new way of test taking. It is not strictly knowledge base, it is also application. You need to know the knowledge to apply it.
  • Make your own experience. Try not to listen to horror stories (I am still working on this)
  • Sheer determination
  • Organization
  • Try to be around positive people. Of course people will have down days and will need to vent. Vent, but move on.
  • Try to keep a positive attitude even if you have to repeat a course. Remember, you are still in the game. (ummmmm, can someone remind me of this if I have to repeat a course?)
  • WORK hard
  • Have fun and laugh. My clinical group is a riot. I love clinicals. We are serious without being overly serious. As my instructor said today, "#?hi$ happens"
  • Take care of yourself.......with that said, G'nite! (Hummm, a bubble bath and wine BY MYSELF sounds great right now)

A few more....

  • Know your A & P and Patho down cold.
  • Make friends with someone a semester or two ahead of you.
  • Make friends with someone a semester or two behind you and help them. Ya know, Pay it forward. By taking the time to help someone with a concept you already went thru will help solidify what you already learned. Remember everything you learn in nursing is a building block for something else. In 1st semester when you thought you were over and done with fluids/electrolytes and acid-base balance WILL come back for Med-Surg 2. Not is a bad way....if you liked it.......

(okay, my 5 minutes for All Nurses is done.....off to study for an exam!)
