Our facility is now investigating a Facebook thread about nursing students acting inappropriately while on clinical rotation. Remember, social media is not protected by privacy laws. I saw the actual thread - and so will the BON if the facility determines who needs to be investigated. BEWARE.

Remember freedom of speech only applies to government issues and when reasonable (you can't yell bomb in an airport as a sociological experiment) and does not apply to schools or private entities including message boards like Facebook or allnurses.
Nothing posted online is private nor is it ever fully deleted.

Just because you have the FREEDOM to speak it doesn't mean it doesn't have consequences.

It's scary how accessible things online can be these days, and some of the things that people think is okay to post on social networks. Please be smart about what you post.

It completely fascinates me what people think is ok to post on facebook. I saw this quote one time and I think it rings very true. A sign of a healthy relationship is it is not on facebook. People to need to apply this to all aspects of life.

I don't understand how students could e so careless. Our instructor made sure to mention that "what happens in clinical stays in clinical" and to post nothing identifiable on social media as it can e grounds for dismissal depending on the content. But even f they hadn't, why are people dumb enough to admit to wing in appropriate at clinical. Stupidity at it's finest I guess.

Watch what you post, watch what you click. Though it is useful, internet has become an ingredient of destruction.

It still fascinates me to this day that people don't use the one thing you should have in the first place and you cannot find in an education...
....common sense.
:/ Don't post stuff you might regret later. Or is even questionable to begin with. That's my motto.

I recently discovered Ellen Degeneres' "Look What I Found On Facebook" videos on You Tube. She takes a picture of an audience member or staffer that they've posted on Facebook, enlarges it to about 6 feet high and then broadcasts it on television while inviting the person who posted it to stand up and discuss what made them decide to post THAT picture on Facebook. What floors me is that people seem rather proud of themselves to be singled out rather than embarrassed to be proven to be so lacking in taste and common sense. There was a selfie that some woman took down her own shirt, some dude dressed in drag and mooning the camera, women posing with Chippendales dancers, someone with their head in the toilet after obviously being overserved . . . all pictures I wouldn't want to EXIST, much less to put up on the internet for everyone and their mother to see. I cannot understand what makes people so stupid!
But then, my own observation has always been that half the world's population has a below average IQ.

The things that some people post on facebook is both shocking and appalling and IMO shows their level of intelligence. I see some posts and think to myself that that person is as smart as a bag of hammers. It's kind of like those people that go on those reality shows and make complete idiots of themselves. I agree with you Ruby. You have to wonder what people were thinking when they post those kinds of pictures. What was going through their mind to make them think that it was a good idea to post them on facebook?
Things that make you go, Hmmm.

My class learned the hard way last year. We have a class facebook page to share recordings and study guides and helpful tips. Well, some people were angry about the way an instructor was teaching and blasted her all over our facebook page. Someone showed it to the teacher, and I felt so bad for her. The things that were written were very mean, and while her teaching style did stink, she didn't deserve to be talked about like that. The school came down hard! If you post it, it's public knowledge.
