Washington State and Excelsior

Published

Hello!

Is there anyone currently attending Excelisor who lives in Washington state? I called the WA BON this week and they told me there were going to start "phasing" out Excelsior and other non-traditional nursing schools because of the fact that they are "non-traditional."

I have my preceptor set up, and I currently work full time at an Urgent Care as a LPN. I emailed the HR of my company and asked if they hired Excelsior graduates and they informed me that they currently have nurses who went through Excelsior..

My questions:

Any graduates who went through Excelsior and had success finding a job?

Has anyone RECENTLY applied for their license in a different state and endorced their license WITHOUT the 1000 hr requirement?

Do you know if you can "shadow" an MD or NRAP or does it have to be an RN?

I am currently in MI but my husband has a job opportunity in Seattle so I have done a ton of research into this topic lately. I have found that Excelsior grads are still widely hired throughout WA. They are making it more difficult with the preceptorship but there are 2 loopholes. You can work in another state for 6 months and then they will endorse your license, you can also work for a government facility like a veterans hospital. Most other states do not have the stricter rules. For example MI will just endorse you, no preceptor needed. I work in sub-acute rehab with several Excelsior grads, including my DON and ADON.
