Overlake or Evergreen Hospital?

U.S.A. Washington

Published

:monkeydance: Hi! We'll soon be moving from Hawaii to Everett,Washington around summer and i'm still looking to see which hospital is best overall: pt ratios, pay, working condition, etc. I'm looking into Med/ surg- nights or eve only. Would gladly appreciate any information. Thanks!!!!

ira808,

I am currently a nursing student doing clinicals at Evergreen in Kirkland, and I love it. They have excellent med-surg, a fairly good pt-nurse ratio (most nurses I worked with had 3-5 pts, 5 being rare), and are in the process of moving into their new building so the facilities will be new and state of the art. They seem to offer lots of continuing education opportunities too. Evergreen is about 20 miles from Everett via I-405 so my only caution is to perhaps choose shifts that don't cause you to fight rush hour.

I have classmates who do clinicals at Overlake and that is good, as well. Also, closer to home for you may be Providence Everett.

Just some suggestions...

Have you thought about Everett hospitals like Providence? Believe me the commute to Kirkland/Bellevue from Everett can be brutal!! I have done it and I know first hand!!!

Ami-tay,

what school are you going to? I'm doing clinicals at Evergreen right now too on Tuesdays and Wednesdays on the med-surg floor!

Oh and also, I agree about Evergreen being an awesome place. I'm not sure if I will stay in this area after I graduate, but if I do, I think Evergreen will be a great place to work.

The nurses there are really great to the students, and I think that that is a good sign since we probably annoy them most of the time with our incessant questions! They are very easy to work with and there doesn't seem to be as much cattiness as I've seen at Overlake. I'm sure Overlake is a good hospital, but my experience points to Evergreen as being better. Plus Kirkland is closer to Everett than Bellevue is...
