Ouch. IMO, now would not be the best time to be pursuing a degree in research, if you don't already have some definite assosciation with an agency or company.
Based on what you describe as you available options, I would probably be looking at the RN-MCR (or whatever they're calling their research degree). I would also consider how close the research pathway is to an MPH. Not that either is hugely marketable, but... Are you already working for a State/Fed agency or provider? If so that's a foot in the door. If not, that would be my suggestion, on the way to the NIH, CDC, FDA or similar.
I'm a lowly ADN, and I have 9 yrears in predominantly industry sponsored trials. We aren't seeing as many "new" projects, and far more new applications/expanded application (i.e., patent extenders), and I believe this is because no one is really certain of what the effect of "healthcare reform" will be on the industry.
New pathway

I have been a nurse over 5yrs and I'm currently a psych nurse. I am wanting to go into psych research, I have a AS degree and have been looking a higher degrees. I have looked at BSN with a post Bach certificate in clinical trials research or a RN to Masters in clinical research trials. Does anyone have insight to which would be best? Thanks
