I'm 21 years old, and very interested in a career as a Labor and Delivery nurse. I was a young mom, who had a very tramatic, very early delivery! I delivered at 27 weeks, a baby girl who is now going on 2 and is thankfully, perfectly healthy and normal. My own experience with the nurses I had during my labor and delivery was terrible. They were all very rude and cold to me. I'm not sure if it was because of my young age, or because of the tense circumstances(I showed up at the hospital fully dilated). But none the less this has only given me more of a passion to do this. I have been fasinated with pregnancy, and birth since I was a little girl. And I love to help and comfort people. I think this is something I could have the potential of being really good at and really enjoying it while helping others. I am just not sure where to start! Do you have to be an RN to work in Labor and Delivery and or Postpartum? What are your hours like and did you go right into working labor and delivery after finishing school? Any help or advice you could give me would be of great help!
