OK, not sure if there have been any current threads on this subject, but am going to be new to the area and will be in town to visit both of these schools this month(flying in with my hubby to look at the area for relocation from California!). A little history, I ultimately want to get into an ABSN program at either Duke or Chapel Hill, but since those are super competetive and my cum GPA from my past college coursework is barely a 3.0...I'm thinking I better have alternatives. So when we move I may not have all my pre reqs done (Anatomy, Phys, Micro, etc). So what school has a better reputation? Watts or Wake? Will be looking at Wake Forest, Holly Springs, Cary, Chapel Hill as potential cities to move to.
Thanks soo much!!!
p.s.s. does anyone also have any recommendations on good schools to get an LVN in case I need a back up back up plan? :)
I hear that there is an LVN to BSN option through Indiana State so that could be an option too I suppose.
p.s.s.s I have my CNA from CA...and will need to take the challenge exam to be listed on the NC registery...
With Watts you don't need to worry about pre-reqs. You are required to take them with MOC.
I'm from Ca too. What area are you moving from? Durham Tech has an LPN course (Out here they are LPN not LVN). I live in Cary and I love it. Holly Springs is a little far from all of the schools you are considering. So is Wake Forest.
Enjoy your trip!
Thanks for your response! We are moving from Ventura County...which is about 45 minutes South of Santa Barbara. Lived here all my life so this will be a big change for sure!! Is Watts considered a private school, meaning will I be charged as an out of state resident if I were to start say this fall at MOC?
Probably going to end up moving to Cary just because it's so close to everything....Cary has been compared as the East coast equivalent to the city we are currently living in:)
I have an appointment with a Watts advisor this month on the 23rd to see the school and get particulars....
carshell,
I'm from CA too.... I grew up in Valencia. I live in Cary, and yes, you will feel a little more at home in Cary. The drive from Cary isn't bad either. Actually, after living in CA....no drive will seem bad to you. Holly Springs is great and it's much cheaper than Cary. Also, it's not that bad of a drive. Farther than Cary but worth it.
Watts is private but the cost is the same for in state or out of state. Have you taken your entrance test yet?
I've been told both are good. I know someone about to graduate Watts and I myself was accepted into Wake Tech. I ultimately chose to go the ADN route for the money (that much debt scares me at Watts) and Wake Tech admits 2x year (spring and fall). I got admitted and still needed 2 pre reqs (that's what summer and online classes are for! lol).
