Hi all,
I graduated with a BA degree last year and am currently taking my pre-requisites for either an ABSN or a DEMSN program. I am also volunteering in my spare time. The local hospital that I am currently in training for has a number of options for volunteer work. The positions that appeal to me the most are: (1) lobby desk volunteering (greeting visitors, helping discharge patients, delivering meds/charts), (2) CCU volunteering (providing emotional support, explaining visiting procedures) or (2) the hospital's Health Library volunteering (helping visitors find answers to their health-related questions through books, DVDs, and the internet, helping with osteoporosis and blood pressure screenings). I know that the lobby desk volunteering seems more pertinent to nursing in general but the library position seems more relevant to my area of interest-- family and community health. My goal is to be either a FNP or a public health or community health NP-- working in a primary care setting or a non-profit clinic. Would volunteering at the hospital's library be viewed as hospital/health care volunteer work for ABSN/DEMSN programs?
Thanks!
