I decided to volunteer as a nurse with the American Red Cross to help my home state recover from Hurricane Harvey. I am single, no children, and my current job is the most flexible I've ever had, so I can do the nine-day deployments they are asking for. It is the right thing to do for myself and my community.
I am am wondering if anyone here has experience volunteering for Red Cross. If so, what does a typical shift/day/deployment entail? Thank you.

Yes, I have volunteered recently myself and am interested in hearing others experience. Basically I'm tagging myself on this to hear the responses. Thanks.
MichRN1, What did you do with American Red Cross? Things like host blood drives or more hands-on relief such as tending to people injured in a disaster? Trying to figure out what kinds of things they'll have me doing if I get accepted.
Sideshow, I just applied yesterday. I'm as new as you and looking for information as well.
Oh, I see. I just saw a post by NurseBeth stating basically that there may be a wait. Their priority at this moment is getting supplies and donations, not deploying nurses. Link to NurseBeth article: https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/how-to-help-1116568.html
