Volunteer Red Cross Nurse

I decided to volunteer as a nurse with the American Red Cross to help my home state recover from Hurricane Harvey. I am single, no children, and my current job is the most flexible I've ever had, so I can do the nine-day deployments they are asking for. It is the right thing to do for myself and my community.

I am am wondering if anyone here has experience volunteering for Red Cross. If so, what does a typical shift/day/deployment entail? Thank you.

MichRN1, What did you do with American Red Cross? Things like host blood drives or more hands-on relief such as tending to people injured in a disaster? Trying to figure out what kinds of things they'll have me doing if I get accepted.

Oh, I see. I just saw a post by NurseBeth stating basically that there may be a wait. Their priority at this moment is getting supplies and donations, not deploying nurses. Link to NurseBeth article: https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/how-to-help-1116568.html
