volunteer here: Approaching nurses Question

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm a volunteer in patient escort and I'm wondering, if time allows, how to possibly receive feedback from nurses or build some type of relationship with nurses while I'm volunteering...

I'm in my mid twenties and will be applying to accelerated nursing programs in the fall. I've been taking the prereqs for nearly 3 years (while also working full time). I began volunteering at a major boston hospital to get the sense of what a hospital environment is like etc (I do currently work for the hospital organization but in a corporate setting). Going into nursing will cost me a ton and will certainly change my life, so I'm incredibly nervous about this potential career change decision... but it's not like you can shadow a nurse for a few days or anything to 'give it a try'.

So in volunteering I was hoping on building a relationship with some of the nurses to possibly receive feedback on what their day is like etc etc. I don't know what the best way to approach a nurse would be though, being that it's busy (although I'm there on a 'night shift' - 5-8- so it's not that hectic). This forum has helped a lot, but fact to face interaction with a nurse I see in action would really help me out. :lol2:

Suggestions!?

(thanks in advance!)

I approached every nurse I ever encountered before and while in school to ask them about the profession and how they liked it. I felt they were more than happy to talk about it and share.
