Any Commonwealth Nursing Program students here?

I'm beginning the program through John Tyler Community College in January and I'm excited/nervous. I feel like I have so many questions, but we don't have our orientation until 12/17. Just curious if anyone here has gone through the program and if you have any advice.

Thanks!

I am so glad to see someone else starting the program. Germanna is going to be my home college. I am sooo nervous!!! I really dont know anything about the program. Do you know anyone that has been through it?

Shannon

No, I don't know anyone else. I'm nervous too, not sure what to expect, how I'm going to balance everything. We have our orientation on 12/17and there will be current students there. Do you know where and when your clinicals are yet? I also wish I knew what supplies to get other than the e-book bundle. Do you know anyone in it, or through it? I'm curious what to expect from clinicals, what specific supplies are must haves, etc. What hospital are you doing your clinicals at?

Hello, I don't know anyone else in it. I did talk to my adviser at Germanna. She is not an adviser for the program. She told me that she believes clinical will be held on Saturday and Sunday 7am-7pm. I don't know if she meant that we have clinical on both days or if we pick the day or what. Do we start clinical right away?

Are you able to get the ebooks now? I tried and so far I cant get them at my school. I heard that we need a BP cuff and a stethoscope. I am assuming at the meeting they will tell us what kind of PDA we need.

Kids are yelling got to go!:uhoh3:

I think we do start clinicals right away. When I registered for my classes it said Thurs, Fri 5-9PM and every other Sat. 7-5. I haven't been able to get the bundle yet. When I called the book store about it they told me we also have to purchase a 'nurses kit' which has some supplies necessary for clinicals, but I don't think a stethoscope is included in that. The PDA suggested is the HP iPAQ hx2790 Pocket PC. It runs about $500. I asked about it because I wanted to shop around before I had to get it. How many kids do you have? I have three, 8, 6, 5. Here is my e-mail address if you want to keep in touch when the program gets started rather than keeping this post going for only the two of us!

My 5 year old just got up and if he doesn't eat something when he gets up right away he's a bear. Later!

My name is Joy and I'm starting CNP w/ you in what, 2 weeks? Wow, can't believe it's almost here. I've already met Shannon, also at my home college of Germanna. Still confused on our clinical schedule. Nothing like short notice to get my easy breezy life (Ha!) situated.

Still shopping for a more affordable PDA.

This site seems pretty great- can't wait to search through all the info.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone over the next 18 months.

Hi ladies! My name is also Joy (Joy K) and I am applying to the CNP for Fall 2008. I'll hopefully be at John Tyler. Just finished up my nursing pre-reqs and my overall GPA looks good, so fingers crossed (application period closes Feb 1)!

I'l love to hear anything about your orientation and what you learned, what supplies you are being asked to get, how the program is going, etc.

And a little about me - I am a 29-year old mother of 2, looking for a career change from Financial Services. I work full-time and my hubby is a SAHD to our 2 little ones.

Hi Joys,

This is a great messge board, lots of great info.

For the Joy getting ready to apply, stay on top of things!I had some problems with my application at first and almost did not get in because of lost transcripts. It all worked out but just make lots of calls to ensure evryone has all you information.

The program is expensive and a bit unorganized. So far I really like everyone in the program, teachers and students. At the meeting the teachers acted like they want you to do well and want to help.

I will have more information when classes start.

I AM GOING TO GRADUATE FROM THE COMMONWEALTH NURSING PROGRAM IN MAY 2008. WE FINISH APRIL 17TH. IT HAS BEEN A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE AND I FEEL HONORED TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF IT. MY HOME SCHOOL HAS BEEN GERMANNA. STUDY, STUDY, STUDY. IT IS NOT EASY BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT. I WISH EVERYONE THE BEST OF LUCK WITH THIS PROGRAM. STICK WITH IT AND WORK HARD-IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH IT.

:yeah: Congratulations!!!!! I wish I was graduating with U! I am halfway through the first semester. I just took my midterm for Nur 111. I can say I have a love /hate relationship with the program. I did not expect it to be so time consuming. But the time I spend seems to be paying off:specs:.

I am also at the Germanna cohort . Is their anymore suggestions you can give? Would you tell us what to expect down the road. We are starting clinical on Wednesday, what should we expect (I am soooo nervous).

I GOT INTO THE PROGRAM!! I am so happy - I got my acceptance email today!! John Tyler (Midlothian) will be my home campus. I have to accept the spot by 4/4 - my hubby and I are going to have one last heart to heart so that I can make sure he is ready for this, and then I am going to ACCEPT!!

The email didn't give too much detail, just that uniforms, orientation, medical information would be forthcoming.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

Now, I just have to tell my boss ;)

RN-to-be in Spring 2010!!!

:ancong!: I hope you decide to take the slot.

It will be a very stressful time for you and your family. Just remember that it will be worth it in the end!

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
