Veterans Hospital in Long Beach new grad 2014

U.S.A. California

Hello everyone, I wanted to start this new thread for those of us who have been selected to continue with the hiring process at the VA in Long Beach, CA 2014. You can update us on anything or ask questions about the process itself. I am not an expert in the hiring process at the VA but we are here to help each other out and support one another. This process does take longer than at other hospitals. For those who have been in the military they have the hurry up and wait mentality so most of it will happen fast or close to when the start of their new group is to start. Good luck to everyone!

Hi Pablotru,

Can you tell me if you have already begun the interviewing process? I received an email that showed I was "eligible" about 2-3 weeks ago, but I was never asked to come in for an interview.

I tried calling the recruiter and he said that they were still trying to figure out how many new grads they would be taking.

Thanks!

Nope haven't started the interview process yet. I got the same email at the same time. The original job announcement said 5 but they usually change it to more, never heard them taking less. I've tried calling but the never pick up and never return my calls.

Oh, ok. Thanks so much. wow, it's going to be a long process, I imagine. Please keep us all posted if you receive a call to interview. I'm assuming the program doesn't event start until around late spring or summer considering it takes soooo long for them to process all of the paperwork that goes along with getting hired.

Take care,

Melissa

So, I got called for an interview for this week and I am super excited about it!! Hope it goes well. If anyone has any tips as to what the expect in the interview I would greatly appreciate it. I was not given any details on the interview just to show up.

So, I had my interview and it went pretty good, had the written portion followed by a panel interview with 5 unit managers, 1 HR and 1 nurse educator. Each asked one question and three asked a second. I got called the following week, which was last thursday and was told I was selected for the position, now I just have to pass a background and have a physical. I will find out more details this week. If anyone has any insight on the background it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi pablotru, I just got a call from the VA in Long Beach for an interview on Thursday, it looks like they're starting another new grad cohort. I've seen postings elsewhere saying that you're given a list of questions that you then answer for a panel. I was wondering if you had the same experience? And if so, do you remember any of the questions? Also, what was the written portion? Thank you for any help you can give!
