Valencia Nursing. Military marriage?

Published

Okay so Im currently a dual enrolled student at valencia and I'm getting my A.A. Reqs as well as my A.S.N. reqs at the same time. I'm supposed to finish my AA degree fall 2018 so I told my fiancé (in the military) I could get married spring 2019. I had a meeting with my advisor and in order for me to take the UCF all-online ASN to BSN program wherever me and my spouse would go I have to take the nursing program which adds 2 years till I can move wherever he is. I'm curious if there's a better way for me to go about this.. if any clarifications are needed, let me know. Any help is appreciated!

Dual enrolled as in you're still in HS? That is a hard decision and something you have to do a lot of soul searching because military life will certainly throw a wrench into your plans. My husband is military and we found out we got orders to move on the first day I started nursing school. Is your husband stationed somewhere in FL? Or is he out of state? If he is out of state, two years is a long time to be apart. The only suggestion I have is enroll in a program where you all will be stationed at, do a two year program to secure your RN and then you can do an ASN-BSN bridge program as many institutions offer that online anyway.

He's in BMT right now. I'm worried about going with him while I only have an AA not an ASN because I'm worried he won't stay at a base for a full 2 years, so I'd end up staying wherever he was while he'd have to move away. The online ASN to BSN is simple to acquire. Also, I plan on getting my BSN from UCF and in order to not pay out-of-state tuition, I'd have to be a Florida resident so wouldn't that cancel out enrolling into a nursing program elsewhere? Thank you for responding. What do you think is the best ideaí ½í¸”

You will be able to keep your Florida resident status even if you out of state. I never changed my Florida residency when we moved to Japan or NC.

Did your fiance enlist out of FL? If that's the case then Florida will be his home of record. All this makes you eligible for in state tuition regardless if you live in Florida. I was eligible for instate tuition at UCF even while I was living in Japan. All I had to do was fill out a special form and provide them some kind of prof. I think I provided them his LES (his paycheck)

As far moving around, that's always going to be up in the air. So far we have moved on average every 3 years, but we have friends who enlisted at the same time and haven't moved in 7 years. I want to say it's rare to move in less than 2 years only because I never come across a person who has, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

I can't really tell you what's best because you're going to have to sacrifice something and that's a personal choice. Can you be away from your fiance for two years? Can you be OK with putting your plans temporarily on hold to be with him?

Wow you've been such a big help! Thank you very much. I think im going to go with finishing my AA and just doing an ASN program wherever we go if it's inside the country (language barriers).
