VA retirement vs. Corrections

Published

After nearly 2 years, i realize i did not go to school to treat rapists and molester's, not to mention those that committed murder.

I have worked in 3 prisons, still have not met a person who "loves" it.

We love the pay, and that it is easy, thats about it.

I think its time i worked with those who gave to this country, not stole from it.

anyway, I know i'm taking a huge pay cut to work VA.

My question is the retirement.

California Corrections is pretty easy.

2.5% per year, times years of service.

so 20 years = 50 percent of your monthly salary for retirement.

vested at 5 years, can collect at 55.

With VA, all i can find out is I can retire at 56.8.

what is the percentage, is it close to 2.5%?

If i made 10k a month when i retire, how much would the retirement be?

The VA or fed govt. website says nothing.

All it says is pretty much "retirement benefits".

Its like a restaurant menu saying "food".

I'm looking for the formula.

thanks.
