VA nurse proficiency

Published

Newbie VA nurse x 6 month, first time completing self assessment for nurse proficiencies. I don't know where to start and my coworkers also seem quite confused. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Did you ever get assistance? Your NM is supposed to provide guidance, you can also ask for the contact info for the NQS-SAC SME (basically new promotions board subject expert or chair).

Your manager is supposed to give you a worksheet that spells out what criteria you need to meet in 5 areas (leadership, practice, research, veteran/patient care, and professional development, to promote to the next level.

exceptions: you will not promote to nurse 2 without a BSN and 2 years of nursing experience. you will not promote to nurse 4 without an MSN and 2 years of MSN experience.

I heard the VA transitioned to eperformance and dissolved the board.  your facility still has a board?

No the NPSB dissolved and was replaced nationally with the NQS-SAC, e performance is the platform where you submit your info these days.

NM provided the required guidance and some examples from when the board was in place- she's great, but is also brand new to the VA. I wrote what I have done thus far to meet the criteria. I guess we will see what feedback I get down the road.
