UW Oshkosh Online BS-BSN Accelerated Program Advice!

Published

I am preparing to apply to the University of Wisconsin Oshksosh Online Accelerated BSN program for the May 2015 cohort (still a ways away, but need to start preparing!), and have a few questions!

1. My undergrad prereq GPA is rather low: ~3.0, primarily because I initially took most of my prereq's my first semester of college (almost 10 years ago). I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life and didn't take my education seriously (paying for it now...!) However, I am retaking two of the classes and assuming I ace them, it will bump up that GPA to about 3.4, based on the calculations of the four highest prereqs. Is this too low of a GPA to even think about applying to this program? I read that we are only allowed two retakes, if I retook three classes, does that kill my chances of being accepted?

2. I am currently taking a CNA course, and by the time I apply to UW will have about 6-7 months/experience working as a CNA (CNA jobs are plentiful where I live). Is this enough experience? Should I work as a CNA for an additional year before applying to try and compensate for my lower GPA? I do have 6 months of experience (undergrad internship) working as an Exercise Physiologist in a cancer institute. I worked with cancer patients of course, and I feel that it helped me get a foot in the door as far as experience goes, even though it was only 6 months. Will this experience play a factor in getting accepted, or is the experience they are looking for primarily CNA work?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks! :)
