Nursing Students School Programs

I just got accepted to the AGNP program at UVM but I honestly don't know much about it. I didn't see any other threads about it or any other mentions so figured I may as well start a new thread. Has anyone gone through the program or applied? Thanks!

Hi, I also just got accepted but into their FNP program and have been hoping for more information! Thanks for starting this thread. I hope someone tunes in!

It's still a fairly new program with the first students to go all the way through only recently graduating. As with any new program there are some kinks to be worked out along the way. A lot of the course work after the RN year is half online and half on campus, with alternating weeks... and while this may sound nice in theory it really fails to provide the continuity or depth you would hope from graduate course work. Additionally, with Vermont being rural in nature this can have an affect on the clinical placements both during the RN and graduate years. Some of the rotations are very rewarding with some truly special staff, but others can be hit or miss.... there is the chance you may have to do plenty of commuting due to the nature of the state. Some variability in the quality of the teachers of the undergraduate courses but the graduate program staff are all very qualified and knowledgeable with much academic and working experience...though I would expect some turnover in staffing over the next few years due to the tenure and age of some. Hard to tell you if a school is right for you, there really is no way to know unless you can visit and get a feel for the campus, staff, and city yourself.

I'm hoping to make a visit to campus soon to check it out and meet with faculty and staff. Thanks so much for your input! It's been tricky finding out information, even from the admissions department.

Did you end up accepting your offer?

@anonymous916 I did not end up accepting. I went and visited but did not get to talk to any faculty or even take a tour of campus. I spoke to two current students which both basically said the same thing greenmountain did. While they do prepare their students well for their boards there is still room for improvement in terms of the infrastructure and coursework. It was a tough decision because I really like Burlington but in the end I just felt like I personally would need more support from a program.

Will you be attending?
