UVA New Grad Nurse Residency

U.S.A. Virginia

Published

I am thinking about accepting a job as a new grad for a July start date in an ICU. I am deciding between moving to Charlottesville or a job in DC. What are yalls thoughts on both? I'm 22 and want to have a good time and meet people. I know Cville is smaller than DC obviously but UVA is a level 1 trauma center which is important to me, and the hospital in DC is not.. I love DC, but I love the unit at UVA.

Thoughts PLEASE????

Charlottesville has every thing DC has with none of the headaches. Yes, you are young and are probably attracted to the bright lights of the big city, but lots of people your age either come to Cville or stay here when they graduate too.

I am from the DC suburbs and went to UVA. So I am very familiar with both areas. You might be able to make some more bucks up in DC, but what Cville has to offer in terms of quality of living can more than make up for that.

I have been here for 17 years now and would never even consider going back up north. I still have not started nursing school and will be trying to get in to the UVA New Grad program when I graduate in a couple years. How competitive was it? What were your stats like if you don't mind me asking?

Specializes in ICU/CCU, PCU, Neuro, Telemetry.

I was a traveler that worked at UVA for 2 contracts and I LOVED IT. Charlottesville is a nice town and it's growing. I would consider working at UVA if I ever decide to settle down.

Thanks so much for your input! It was not as competitive as I expected, I'm from and went to school in the Deep South. I have a 3.88 GPA with sigma theta tau and other honors such as that and I did an externship between my last 2 years of BSN nursing school, I didn't think I stood a chance but have gotten 2 job offers from there!

I have an interview on Tuesday, any advice?
