My name is Dustin and I just got out of the Army and I am wanting to go into the nursing field. I am using my VA education benefits for my schooling and they have came up with some questions for me to ask nurses already in the career field to gain some insight.

Started as a CNA in high school and worked as one throughout nursing school.

2. What are your duties on a typical day?

Depending on what type of patients come in, I work in ER.

3. What are the educational or training requirements?

Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree - depending on your facility you work in.

4. What are the challenges you face in your job?

5. What skills and abilities are needed to do this type of work?

Critical thinking skills, team work, precise assessment skills and be able to multi-task during high stress situations.

6. What is the salary range for entry-level positions?

$22 - $32 an hour depending on facility.

7. Do you see a demand for this occupation or any future changes taking place in this field? Please explain.

There will always be a demand for nurses, just might not be exactly where you want it to be.

Make sure to involve yourself in as much as possible during clinicals, and if you can work in healthcare prior and during school you will be ahead of the game.
