UPMC shadyside and UPMC Mercy

Published

I applied for both schools and assuming that i pass the exam I'll get in. But is anyone an alumni of any of these programs? I was wondering if you come out with as much as expierence as someone that had gone to a 4 year school would have? How hard would you say it was for you to do? Would you do it all over again if you had the chance? After I get out of the program and am serving my 2 years, do they assign you where to work or can i start working as a delivery room nurse?

Thanks in advance

Hi!

I went to Shadyside. It is a good school, and will give you more clinical experience than most 4 year programs. They don't assign you to jobs/specialties. Though I will say it is difficult to get into L&D at Magee as a graduate nurse. I don't know about Mercy, as we hadn't bought them yet when I graduated. I'd suggest trying to get a job as a NA at Magee during school, or trying for an internship at some point. Some people get lucky, and do manage to get in as a new nurse.

As for if I'd do it again, I don't know. I'm glad I did it, but I can't imagine nursing school again.

Good luck!
