University of South Alabama Pediatric NP online program

The local college that I was first interested in, has closed the peds acute program at this time, and will not have the primary peds class this fall if the minimal number of spots is not filled. For this reason, I am looking into online options. Those without frequent travel seem few and far between for me in peds primary care. I have seen mixed reviews about USA program from previous years, but nothing recent. I just applied for the program and am in search of others in case my local school does not work out. Does anyone have any input, pros, cons or advice regarding the USA Peds NP program?

Thanks in advance

I have applied for the Fall PNP-PC program at USA and I have heard mixed reviews as well however a close friend did complete their FNP program and she LOVED it. Also, I know their passing rate for the boards are very high which is important. I believe you only have to go to the campus once prior to starting your clinicals so that is also a positive. Maybe someone else with a little more insight will answer. Good luck to you.

Have you looked at ? There's no traveling to campus until year 2. In year 2 and 3 there are some days on campus but not many. They have a primary care and an acute care and dual program are coming very soon.

I do remember glancing at , but something must have turned me off. Likely it was the travel, which will be hard while working full time. I am going to look into it in more depth right now. Peds options are very limited. Vanderbilt was another option, and closer to me, but also required some travel. Thank you!!

Drexel does have travel but it did get cut back. The one class stopped requiring traveling to campus...instead you have to do something via webcam.

When will the dual- primary/acute program start? I wasn't able to find any info on that. Also, where can we find board pass rates for various programs?

They have state approval just waiting for accreditation to come through. I heard dual should be ready to go by fall (if not a lot sooner).

The acute and dual are new...so no rates. I have been told primary...100%. I don't know where you can actually find the numbers online.

I spoke with someone at on Friday. He told me that the post-masters acute care pnp program will start this summer and that all of the other pnp programs will start in the fall. For the post-masters, Drexel is 29-39 credits. Seton Hall also starts in the fall but because it it 18-29 credits, even with its higher tuition rate, still comes out to be less expensive for me. Of course, neither one can match the tuition at USA but their post-masters in acute care peds is for a dnp (not a certificate) and I really don't want to give over 3+ years of my life to the pursuit of another degree.

One thing to check with ...they have a lot of partnerships with companies and stuff to get discounts up to 25% off which changes a lot with the tuition. Also, Seton Hall told me they aren't really 100% online so something to question.

My employer has a partnership agreement with both and Seton Hall for 25% of the tuition for each of them. I know that SHU requires some campus visits but so does Drexel. They are both good schools and I plan on applying to both (hedging my bets here) but the 29 to 39 credits at Drexel seems a bit daunting.

Just be careful with Seton Hall because the one lady I got on the phone made it sound like you are on campus very often. I could never get a straight answer from them about a few things so I never finished my application.
