University of Rochester

Published

Hi,

I just received my acceptance letter today for University of Rochester's Acclerated MSN program. I'm awaiting decisions from 6 other schools, but have to reply by Feb 2. Soooo...is anyone familiar with the school, region, program? I live in WI and would like to gather as much information as possible in making my decision.

So, the good, the bad, and the ugly (and the great) on anything you know about Rochester NY and the U of R.

Thanks so much!!!

Congrats on being accepted to the UofR! I attended as an undergrad and I found Rochester to be a liiiiiiiiiiiittle small. In addition, it is often cool/cold, gray, and/or snowy. With that said, there is a VERY vibrant performing arts scene there (if you enjoy dance, music, and theater) and the summers are really beautiful. I don't imagine the cost of living is too bad (then again, the UofR is a pretty expensive university). If you have any specific questions (not in regards to the nursing program because I majored in something different), please feel free to PM me. Good luck in making your decision!

I don't think you will find the weather in Rochester an issue- you are from WI after all! Bring your ice scraper.

The U of R is a fabulous school, I didn't go there but know many people who did and were very happy with it. The school has a wonderful reputation on the E Coast and Strong Med Ctr is fantastic. Good luck w your decision:wink2:

I lived in Rochester for 1 year, and applied for the 1 yr BSN program at that school. It is a very prestigious and reputable institution. I met with staff in the School of Nursing (SON), and they were very helpful. I was accepted to the program but did not attend because of:

1) Cost

2) Relocation because of my spouse's job.

Rochester is a great area to live in, the City area has a fairly high crime rate, but the suburbs are great..... cost of living is low - Try Windsor Gardens apartments in Gates/Chili, Greece is nice also and not too far away from the University. You will need a car because the buses are very infrequent and mainly operate in the city areas.

It gets pretty cold in winter and has a lot more snow that NYC, but the spring and summer are gorgeous and make up for the frigid temps of the winter.

Good luck.
