Nursing Students LPN-RN

Updated:   Published

Hey guys, I'm very interested in this program but I haven't found much information about it online from people who have gone through it. If anyone can help me out with a few questions, I'd appreciate it! It says on the website that the LPN-BSN program requires one Saturday per month for class and the rest is online. Are there additional attendance dates for tests as well? Also, I'm interested to learn about what is required for the clinical courses NURS 4044 Clinical III and NURS 4246 Clinical IV in terms of what is expected and how the clinicals are directed. Is there an exit exam that you need to pass before graduating? Please share your experiences!

Classes are one Saturday a month and testing is done during that time. The other testing is done online with your webcam running while running a blocker that prevents leaving the test. I am told the fall clinicals are "flexible" so you would likely be able to work them into your schedule.

Clinical IV are a little more involved. One Wednesday in late Jan you will have to be at the OU hospital for an orientation. Then you will do 12 hour clinicals that Thur. and Friday. There will be another round of Thur Fri clinicals a week or two later in Feb. There are clinicals involved in the nursing leadership class also but again I am told they are "flexible" and there is a possibility to complete them at your job.

By looking at the schedule for Spring 2019 on the OUHSC website it appears that LPNs do ATI testing the last semester and there is a review class later for those who do not pass the test, and a retest date. Do you need to pass them before they graduate you? I don't know...but my guess is yes. I think that is kind of standard in RN programs.

Do you plan to go full time, semi part time, or part time? LPN's need to pass the NLN challenge exams before applying and they offer those a few times a year. I recommend spacing the tests out by taking one or two during each exam period. The spots fill up fast though so if you want to do that you need to sign up as soon as registration opens. If you want to take them all at once over one 2-day testing period pick the earliest date so that if you don't pass one you still may have time to schedule a retest before the application deadline. I missed one exam by 1 point and the last exam date was full on all three campuses so I had to wait until the next application period. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE! I did get in but instead of the full time 9 month program I was hoping for I applied to the next semi part time. Otherwise I would have had to delay my start for a year to get the full time program. Missing that 1 point means I will now graduate May 2020 instead of 2019 like I originally planned.

It turned out to be a blessing. The semi part time program is more manageable for me and my home/work obligations.

Thanks for the info! Do you know how many clinical hours need to be completed with a preceptor or if that is part of the nursing leadership course?

TBH? I have no clue. I'm not sure that there is a preceptor dynamic like there was in LPN school. You can email them or attend an information session for answers to your questions. You could also toss this question on to the Oklahoma Nurses (nursing?) Network facebook group, people are usually pretty good about answering.

Hello @MotherNurseWife please i would appreciate you message me on [email protected]. I have some questions regarding the program you in rn. Thank you so much
