University of Miami (UM) and Florida International University (FIU) CRNA Program

Choosing between UM versus FIU's DNP Nurse Anesthesia Program. Which one would you choose and why? Where are students better prepared?

Hi! I applied last year and got accepted into both programs. For weeks I struggled to decide between schools, but ultimately I chose FIU. I enjoyed the interview process more and was really impressed by the director and staff. I like that the first two semesters are online, which has given me the opportunity to work. The affordability of the program is a tremendous perk and I hope to graduate with minimal loans. FIU has also broadened their clinical sites so we have similar sites to UM now. Honestly, I felt that I was stuck on UM solely for the "name" and "status,” but when it came down to it, I couldn't justify paying more than double the price for the same degree and quality of education/training. I will say that students have better work/life balance at UM because they're given more breaks and supposedly the program isn't as rigorous as FIUs. I also like the fact that UM students start sim lab and clinicals earlier on in the program, unlike FIU that starts third semester. Ultimately, I think they're both great programs and students come out equally as prepared. You just have to pick which program best aligns with what you're looking for.

Amazing response. Thank you so much. I've been struggling with deciding between the two and this put a lot in perspective!

Of course, happy to help! Wishing you the best of luck wherever you decide to go 🙂

Thank you for your insight! It is tremendously helpful. Do you mind if I DM you?
