I've been accepted to UC's MSN/FNP online program starting in Spring 2022, and I am still waiting to hear if I have been accepted to GWU's online program. I am leaning towards UC because I like the curriculum better and it is about $25,000 less expensive than GW. However, I feel that going to a more well-known school such as GW may be helpful with landing preceptors and eventually, jobs. I live in the Baltimore/Annapolis area, so I feel it will be challenging to find preceptors with NP students from Maryland and Hopkins saturating the field (I didn't apply to either of these schools because I want my MSN, not DNP, and I prefer self-paced, online coursework).
I am hoping to find others on here who have attended or are currently attending either UC or GWU and could tell me about their experience. Anyone from Maryland that attended UC's program and could tell me about their experience finding preceptors? Is it worth it to go to a more expensive, "brand name" school? Will it be impossible to find preceptors in my area if I go with UC? Any advice, pros and cons of the programs, good experiences, bad experiences, etc. would be helpful in making my decision. Thank you!!
