Hello! I'm wondering if anyone is currently in the U of C degree holder nursing program or has completed it. I'd love to hear more about it, especially how the pace of the program is, do you get any breaks, any must-do's before the program starts, etc. Also would be interested to know when you found out you got in. Thanks so much!

I entered the program in the degree holder route in January 2017, right now I am in my term 7. There are currently changes being made to the program. Previously, and how I am currently going through the program, term 4 and term 7, both summer terms are being changed from May-August to May-June. Pushing an entire 12ish weeks into 6ish. I've gone through the program getting between 3 and 4 weeks off each term. Now you will have more time off in the summer. I don't think that this really has a drastic overall impact on term 4 as it is not a hard term (generally placements are in long-term care with older adults, performing at the level of a health care aid) but I personally wouldn't be happy with the changes to term 7. You would be getting 3 clinical days a week instead of two.
Term 3 and 4 (winter and summer) were generally really easy I found (community and older adults). Term 5 and 6 were very heavy with pathophysiology and pharmacology. It's totally doable, put the effort in, ask for help if you need it. Term 7, you are asked to rank top choices for a population. There is a chance you dont get your number one population.
Let me know if you have any specific questions and I can try and help!
Also just to add, Things to do before the program starts. If you do get in for January, you could find out as early as October and as late as January. They send out packages where they require you to have up to date certifications for things. CPR-HCP, N95 Fit test, I suggest getting those later in December. CPR is only good for 1 year (school policy) and say you did it in October when you got accepted, your would end up doing it again before your even done school as you will require it for the entirety of term 8 as well.
Thank you so much!
Can you talk abit on how competitive it is to get in? What can I do to increase my chances of getting into the program?
I replied, its not showing?
did it send it to you privately?
I'd also love to hear about how competitive it is to get in! Thanks so much :)
