Hello all,
First off, congradulations to all who will be starting their nursing school journey very soon, I am so happy for you all
I was just wondering if anyone aplied to, is going to apply to, or attended/knew someone who attended UofA. I will be applying to their accelerated bachelor's program (for 2nd degree students) for fall '06 and since it is my first choice I would really love any additional info I might be able to find. I would just love to know anyone's stats, how competitive it might be to get in and anything about the program there is to know. Thank you in advance to ANY info.

Good luck and congratualtions on your choice.
I will be applying for the June 2006 class at U of A as well. One of the first things you should know about the accelerrated program is that it is paid for by one of three hospitals. In return you must work there for 2 years following graduation.
As far as the competativeness of the program, I am guessing that there will be a ton of applicants this year. In one of my classes, almost the entire class was planning to apply to the accelerated program. Some of the stats that I know off the top of my head is that last year there were 64 students accepted. I think there was either 130 or 160 applicants. Most of the students were in state and most of them had a BS in biology or such. 58 were white the other 6 were hispanic or asian. There were 14 men. The average GPA was around 3.71. Please dont quote my stats because I'm going by what I remember (I have been agonizing over applying for almost a year!)
Tucson has great weather, but the U of A has terrible parking, plan on spending quite a bit for a parking pass- so you can walk several blocks to class. By the way you must have your own transportation. Also, they are really interested in knowing how you will afford going to school and not working for 14 months.
Well, I hope I helped. Let me know if you have any other questions. I got a really great impression of the program from their admissions councelors.
Good Luck
Hi there bsn hopeful. Thanks for the info. I was also able to graze a lot of info out of Adele, the admissions counselor, when I went to the July info session. I had a great 9 hour drive with my boyfriend, from santa barbara, CA to U of A for that meeting. I really liked Tucson and am really looking forward to hearing back about apps later this school year, and hope that my bf will get into grad school there, we just love it:) Good luck to you, we will have to check back in towards the end of the year to see how apps went.
