Unemployment questions

Published

One of the travelers that was working w/ us was termintated last week. I think it was due to her calling in too often, which I'm not sure. I haven't spoken to her yet. Can a hospital terminate a contract for something like that? My question is, "Can she file for unemployment until she gets another assignment?" Would she file it w/ her agency or the hospital? What state would she file it in? Knock on wood, I hope I won't need this information in the future. :scrying:

I don't know about unemployment.

I had a contract cancelled in Phoenix. It was due to a communication error. I wasn't told that I had to complete online education courses prior to starting- when I did not have them done and showed up for orientation I was told to go home and finish them and then come back and start in next weeks orientation. The next day I got a call from my liason saying they cancelled my contract. I was furious. My company paid for 2 weeks of housing until they found me a new contract. I think it is odd that a hospital can cancel your contract for petty reasons, but for us to get out of a contract costs us thousands$$$.

Back in the day when I first traveled, it was considered very bad form to call in sick as a traveler. You are there because they don't have enough nurses to fill the open positions. I understand illness is beyond control but you had better be very sick to call in. As far as unemployment, I doubt that anyone would be able to collect as your position is temporary to start with.
