Unemployed Nurses (New and Experienced) in Philadelphia

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hello All,

As you can tell I am an unemployed RN (BSN) in the city of Philadelphia. As most new grads in Philly know, there is no such thing as a nursing shortage here. The major teaching hospitals here do not like to hire new to practice RNs while claiming they like to train the next generation of healthcare professionals. It just awful.

I have personally applied to about 30 jobs ( hospitals, nursing homes, LTC, etc.) and counting and rejected from ALL. I applied to a job at the place I externed for a year and not even an interview let alone the time of day. I worked hard there and had no problems there. I hate this. I hate waking up in the morning and checking my email and getting rejection letters. I hate when I get a phone call and getting excited that it is a potential employer and then it turns out to not being a potential employer. I do not have a car let alone money to relocate or get my New Jersey license. So I am stuck here. I am considering collecting unemployment or finding a job outside of nursing just to be able to stay afloat. I am worried about my loans. I am worried that I wasted my time getting my degree and working hard.

This is a thread where we can all share our stories and updates! I wish every new nurse in Philadelphia and all over the country the best of luck! Let's prove to the nurse recruiters and nurse managers that we are not worthless! We are worth a shot!
