As I am orienting to an L&D unit, I am learning quite a few "unapproved abbreviations" that are used in passing (not charting, except on occasion). They lighten the mood. So, I was just wondering if your unit has any similar?
FOB: Father of baby
PP: Pelvic partner (usually not the FOB)
TOT: Tired of Toting (always a good reason for a 38.0 week induction)
DMS: Dumb mother syndrome (I've been told that docs will say "admit pt with DMS)
There are more, but I am still learning.

C/s for FTP = usually is failure to progress, but we sometimes say it's Failure To be Patient....esp for those residents that rush to cut because mom's not following some curve they saw in doctor school.

Besides FLK, which is my fave, one of our Docs started saying C/S due to FTW (instead of failure to progress, failure to wait). He had the patience of a saint and would get disgusted at the others who were quick to do the C/S.
The same Doc would say the swim team was visiting when he would find little swimmers (sperm) instead of ferning when he was looking at fluid to see if the patient was ruptured.
