Sometimes these classes have prereqs. Like some some places make you take regular bio before A&P and micro. But I was able to take A&P I and II right away at LaGuardia. They only reason that you wouldn't be able to take the class is if they decide you need the remedial classes (ENG 99/MAT 99) which should not apply to you. If you do decide to go to LaGuardia, the professors are hit or miss and avoid taking the harder classes during the short session.
Suffolk on the other hand gave me a really hard time when I tried to take a class there which is surprising because you would expect CUNY to be worse. They would not waive anything and were just really rude about it.

Hello everyone! I'm at the very beginning of my path to nursing school, so first step is taking all the prerequisite classes. I live in NYC, and would like to attend in person at school near me, preferably CC.
When I look through the CUNY course catalogue I see that Gen Chem, A&P I, Human Growth and Micro all have their own prerequisites! I have a BA in a different field and have taken classes like sociology and anthropology, but no college math or "hard" science classes. So I feel like I'm stuck and can't even take these classes through CC.
Did you guys run into this issue? Should I call the school and explain my situation? I can't be the only one trying to register for these basic classes for an ABSN.
I already plan to take some classes through Portage (I called schools I'm interested in to check they accept it), but want to take in person classes because I will need LOR from a professor down the road. Does taking classes in person make my application more competitive? If I take all the classes through Portage will that be a red flag?
I'd appreciate any tips or advice, thanks!
