Hi all! i know this topic has been probably beaten to death on here, but i can't seem to find any recent posts.
I am taking the exit hesi in just a few days and have a bit of a dilemma, I am not sure which source of questions is better to use.
i currently have access to the saunders NCLEX-RN prep on evolve, also have the HESI review NCLEX-RN prep, and we also bought access to yourbestgrade.com
any of you have experience with these? which do you think is better to use for the exit hesi? we need to score above an 850 to pass it.
thanks in advance, hope you guys can give some advice =)

I don't know if you have access to Evolve, or if your school uses it, but logging into Evolve and doing the HESI practice questions have helped me TREMENDOUSLY! I typically start about 2-3 weeks before my HESI and do around 1500-2500 questions. I haven't taken my exit HESI yet, but there is an option on the site to lump all of the categories together and be quizzed on everything. If you have Evolve, or know someone that does, it is definitely the way to go.
thank you for the response!
i do have access to evolve, and have actually been doing practice questions from the green HESI comprehensive review for the NCLEX-RN book. i actually have access to a couple of different sources so was not sure which would be best to use.
i have heard some mention yourbestgrade, any feedback on that one?

Some of my friends have ordered that and they said that it's hit or miss. The way our school does HESI, and as I understand it, the way everyone does their HESI exams, is that the school sends a topical outline to the people that make HESI and they send back a personalized exam based on the outline for the semester. The only one that isn't based on the outlines is your exit HESI, as it is based on a national standard instead of your school. With that being said, I could see where yourbestgrade would be beneficial, but I just feel like there is something to using the source that is provided by the people that make the tests (Evolve which is Elsevier).
What it boils down to is whatever works for you, works. I hated doing the practice question sets, about 100 questions at a time. That being said, I'm scoring very well on the HESI exams. I've never used anything else though, so my experience is limited with other sources!

HESI can be "customized" as you said, or it the school can use the standardized version. As a faculty member of a large nursing program, I can tell you that most schools use the standardized exams for specialty courses- OB; PEDS; Mental Health. Often the first year med-surg exams are customized based on the way the curriculum is set up. I definitely recommend using the HESI Review book- they are the ones who make the test, so it makes sense to use their product. Too many resources is a huge problem, so stick to one or two, do as many practice questions as you can and always think about what is "safest" for my patient. Good Luck!
