UK to NZ - When do I go?

Published

Hi,

I am a UK registered nurse and have recently been accepted onto the NZ Nursing Council register.

It took 9 months to get to this stage so glad I managed to reach this point.

But my problem is when to go. I know it is up to me to decide when to go. I have two options. Either I aim to start work this September or I wait till next year starting just after March.

I want to do some travelling before hand about two months. I was thinking if it was September I went out then I couldn't travel but just go straight for work. However, if I went travelling between October and November then it would be next year March I could expect to find work.

It seems long to wait till next year but then I get more time to plan and not rush as aposed to starting in September. At least I could hand in my notice so I end work in Sep and go do my travelling and then start looking for work from Feb onwards. But then again there is the gap from Jan to the time I would go to work in NZ. I could go to my old employer and ask bank shifts they are always desperate for staff and have said they would take me it till I go.

All seems okay but I just feel like I am only delaying things.

If I go in September I feel rushed but if I go next year I go with planning and time on my side. But then there is never enough time. If I go next year it will be a year till I was registered and I think my goodness that is a long time.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this?

I am single, no kids or house to worry about. I have flexability.

Thank,

Simon

I would personally start in Sept because once I'm mentally somewhere else at work, it's hard to stay invested in the task at hand.

So do you have a job already lined up or are these the times you can go and look for work?

Thanks for your reply Cleback.

No job yet but the agency would probably help me find one by then.

The agency said they will look for work from September onwards for Jan but they said sometimes you can't always find work at that time of year and March is better.

Another part of me thinks if i was to get a job in Sep i prob won't be there till Oct/Nov as they give you a three month period to start. I look at that and think it's almost Christmas and i think should i not enjoy my time with family and friends.

It is a decison i will have to make but it is good to gain others feedback as sometimes others think of things i can't see :)
