UH Manoa BSN 2021

Published

Hey, all! I live on O'ahu and am planning on applying to UH Manoa, HPU and KCC for the fall 2021 semester nursing programs. When I apply, I'll likely have around a 3.65 or 3.7 (depending on how this Chemistry class goes, ugh). 84% on the ATI TEAS, and experience working in phlebotomy doing medical assistant-type duties. What're my chances of being accepted to one of the programs? I'm nervous, since I know it can be really competitive. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Hi! I also live in Oahu and will be applying for Fall 2021 semester to HPU, KCC and UHMC nursing programs. UHM and KCC are definitely the most competitive. UHM’s nursing counselor said they accept about 12/400 students who apply with the highest scores and he said a 92-95% on the TEAS can guarantee you in. When I went to KCC’s Nursing information session around the end of 2019, they said the competitive GPA is 3.8 or above and competitive TEAS score is 85 or above. I think these stats might have changed so emailing nursing counselors asking for their competitive GPA and TEAS is really helpful as well as looking at forums regarding nursing school applications on allnurses.com helps too. Students post their stats and if they got in or not. In the recent KCC semester which I think was Fall 2019, people who posted that they scored 84.7% on the TEAS got waitlisted but in earlier semesters, some people with 80%+ got in. So most likely it’s definitely getting more and more competitive each year. KCC said the TEAS weighs about half the overall points for getting into the program. I think GPA also weighs half. I would attend information sessions and read other forums. For HPU, it’s easier to get in but so ridiculously expensive. I went to their recent nursing info session in October and said that their average TEAS score was an 80, average GPA for prerequisites only was 3.7, average overall GPA for all courses was 3.61, and they accepted about 42% of students who applied. The counselor said they get about 200 applicants. I think COVID-19 makes nursing programs even more competitive. If you choose to ask about nursing school’s competitive scores for getting accepted, please let me know about their response. I want to know if it changed from the last time I was told. We should keep in touch during the application process and update each other! Best of luck!
