UCLA BSN 2018

Published

Hi all! I am just starting a topic to see if anyone else has applied as a transfer student for the Fall 2018 BSN cohort at UCLA! I know it's quite a long shot with them only accepting 10 transfers every year, but I still am confident! My recommenders just submitted their letters tonight, so my application is officially all finished!

Would love to get to know anyone else who applied as a transfer student!

Hi Taylor! I applied as a transfer as well, but I'm also out of state so I'm not too confident on being accepted since there are only 10 spots! Have you completed all your prerequisite courses?

I am currently finishing up the last two I need: Organic Chem and Molecular Genetics! Other than that, all my prereqs are finished, and I should have no problem transferring them over because I go to community college less than an hour away from UCLA! What about you? Any classes you're finishing up?

I wouldn't disregard being accepted yet! I'm sure you have a great shot. I still have hope because my old swim coach got accepted as one of the 10 transfers and I believe if he can achieve it (I am on much the same path as he was) that I have a fair shot at it too!

Oh wow nice! Yeah I am currently in A&P (Anatomy and Physiology) 1 (its a two quarter course in my state) and I am taking Microbio and A&P 2 Spring quarter. So I've got those three sciences to complete still.

Wait your coach heard back already??? I can't remember when they said we would hear back..

If you don't mind me asking, what type of clinical experience(s) do you have?

Sorry, I should have clarified he got accepted in another cohort about a year ago!

Regarding my clinical experiences, I'm in a volunteer internship program called COPE Health Scholars where I get to shift on hospital department floors and interact with nurses and CNAs! I get a ton of patient contact where I'm able to take vital signs, clean, feed, and even ambulate patients! I have rotated through Oncology, Cardiac Telemetry (2 rotations, beginning my third), Emergency Department (1 rotation, about to start my second), Postpartum, Labor and Delivery (2 rotations). Each rotation is exactly three months long and I do about two shifts per week. I've been in the program since September 2016! I've had the awesome opportunity to watch physicians do stitches in the ER, watch nurses help a patient crashing, be in the OR to observe 7 c-sections, observe three lady partsl births, and so much more. I also volunteered at another hospital from June 2016-February 2017. I'm hoping my clinical experience makes up my C in anatomy lol.

Also, did you receive an email informing you your application was complete? My friend did but I haven't yet.

Whoaaa, kinda strange coincidence but I'm a COPE Health Scholar too! I started April 2017 and have completed three full rotations and am on my 4th (Postpartum) right now. I really want to do a rotation on Labor and Delivery next as well as NICU. I've recently been trying to do double shifts weekly and actually really like being able to be on the floor for 8 hours rather than just 4.

I'm sure they won't focus on the one C on your transcript as long as you have decent grades in the rest of your courses (which I am sure you do) and have clinical experience and good letters of recommendation.

No... I haven't gotten any e-mail from them since I submitted my application.

Has anyone heard back yet?

Not yet! But I emailed Mark today asking him about the possibility of me dropping organic chem and he told me he believed the emails would be going out next week! I also asked a blogger I follow that got in as a transfer and she received her acceptance on April 17th. So all signs point to next week!

Decisions came out today! I hope you got good news. I ended up being waitlisted, so not as bad as I originally expected but I can't see anyone turning UCLA down.
