I'm considering relocating to the Savannah area. If there are any travel nurses out there who have worked in Savannah or surrouding areas and would like to offer any info (patient to nurse ratios, good or bad hospitals) I would greatly appreciate it. Especially any ER info. Thanks a bunch.

Specializes in ER.

I can't help you with the hospital situation, but will tell you that Savannah is a very high crime area, so be careful where you decide to live. You may want to consider Tybee Island, just over the bridge. My daughter went to school at SCAD and she and her husband were mugged outside a local pub after a birthday party for a friend. The Savannah police essentially did nothing. They followed the bad guys to the SC boarder then let them go.

My daughter lived in Savannah for about 6 months before moving to Tybee. She said everyone they knew that lived there had been assaulted or had their car stolen. There is some serious gang activity as well, so be careful. My daughter and her hubby were both working on their Masters and were not the "looking for trouble" type.

Buy a local newspaper and read the crime blotter and editorial comments before making a firm committment. I am thankful my daughter finished school and moved before anything worse happened.

It is such as shame as Savannah and Tybee are such beautiful areas with a rich history, but is being ruined. Sorry to be such a downer, but after hearing stories of the town, I would hate for anyone to go there uninformed.

I lived and worked in Savannah (in the hospital with the only level one trauma center) for about 12 years. I'd be happy to chat with you privately if you're interested. Just e-mail.

By the way, I'm originally from Michigan (from a little town outside of Grand Rapids).

Look forward to hearing from you.
