I heard that nurses who work the Alaska bush during the dark months get paid very well. Like 100.00 an hour. Is this true? Does anybody have any experience doing this.
I have been an LPN for a couple years and just received my RN. I'm thinking about travel nursing and I am wondering what part of the country would pay best?? Where I live now, RN's make about 22-25 an hour, so for me to travel, I think I would want to make at least 40 an hour.

I was stationed in Alaska a few years ago, I never heard the 100 an hour claim, but I didn't talk to many RNs. To put things into perspective for you, an LPN was important enough to have her own office, and an RN I did know had his own gun shop on the side, the evidence is on your side.
As you can imagine, SAD is a problem there, add that to the extreme cold, and alcoholism and I can imagine why they need the RNs. In a few months, the stryker brigade stationed in the fairbanks area is coming back, and those guys are business.
