Travel with Dialysis

Published

I had this question come up today. Can a patient travel on a cruise with PD? The cruise line is giving her grief because of having to dispose of the dialysate fluid. I am not a dialysis nurse so I cannot answer this question but what I looked up would go in the toilet as it is natural waste. Thank you for your help.

Hi!! have you loooked into specific companies that offer diaylsis while aboard. for instance, theres dialysisatsea.com. we have had several pts that have utilized this service and they love it. there are several more if you goggle them. hope this helps

There are cruises that offer dialysis services and that would be the better choice even though it is PD and not HD.

Thank you both for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it.

My husband and I used to do home hemo for him. It should just be able to drain down the toilet or shower drain. When we did home hemo in a hotel we would put the drain line in the shower drain and there were no problems.
