I've been an RN for 3 yrs now (licensed in both CA & HI). Like most healthcare workers who went through the pandemic, I'm burnt out, so I left my job at a top 10 nationally ranked hospital and moved to Hawaii. I'm currently working part-time and am looking for other possible career paths. I've been interested in dermatology/aesthetic nursing for years and have struggled with acne since I was 13. But I have ZERO experience in that field. Whenever I would look up aesthetic/dermatology RN career paths, the courses/certifications I would find were mainly in botox/infections or laser (side note: when I was first starting out as a nurse, I interviewed for a plastic surgery clinic in Beverly Hills and was told to come back the following week to scrub in for surgery, but backed out because I did not have a good feeling about the culture of that place-- I don't regret my decision).
I want to learn about the basics, and focus on preventative/holistic health (both internally and externally) before going the invasive route. I'm thinking of going into Esthetician school just simply to gain experience and learn....But am unsure if this is the most efficient path (financial reasons) for someone w/ a BSN. Would love to hear experiences/ advice from my fellow nurses/healthcare workers/estheticians out there! What was the best route for you? And what are your recommendations? Thank you (:
