Transfer Credits

Published

i finally got my transfer report from uta. i am not sure how to read it exactly. and am a little disappointed. this may be because i haven't talked to anyone. they accepted most everything, which i am thankful for.

here are my concerns:

-they called my algebra class developmental. it certainly was not developmental. it's an actual college class. and this is the class before pre-cal.

-they rated my lifespan development class as "psyctran 2000" which is not their class of "psyc 3310"

-they called my microbiology class "bioltran 2000" not biol2460.

can anyone share with me their transfer experience? i am hoping they are open to discussion and if my school sends them the information regarding the class, they will take them.

hi vizzie,

i had a similar prob w/ them. they also referred to mico as bioltran, as well as anat/phys and some others. i even had a class called technical writing, which is the exact name of the class they want us to take and they said it didn't transfer over for technical writing! they classified my eng lit class, satire, as a religion class, rather than an english class. all in all, i had a list of 7 classes which were listed incorrectly. i called, sent a very detailed e:mail listing all discrepancies individually, and i received a response back which addressed only the anat/phys problem, which they said was evaluated correctly. i finally contacted my academic advisor and he said the same thing.!! but....and here is the good (sort of) news.....when my course map was sent, almost everything was accepted! i am still trying to get them to realize that satire is an eng lit class, but everything else seemed to magically be ok. i have to contact my previous school and have them send a course description of the class in order for my academic advisor to understand the meaning of the word, satire. so, hang in until you get the course map. if things are still not right, you can try to work things out with your advisor. just wanted you to know that i feel your pain. write anytime. i will be happy to commiserate.

That is a bit encouraging. Thank you for your experience. I wonder if it will all be ok when it comes time to graduate.

I don't have an academic advisor yet. Or a course map. How long after from the transfer credit evaluation to getting either an advisor or a course map?

Vizzie:

My transfer credit report came in June 29th or so and my course map appeared July 20th, so that's about 3 weeks. I didn't know anything about an advisor either; it was never mentioned in any of the e:mails I received, but when I began calling to find out who could help me straighten out the errors on the transfer report, I was connected to the voice mail box of the one assigned to me. You can find out the name of yours if you go to the web site under student services. On the right hand side of the page, you will see a list of their names, which are assigned to students according to the first letter of their last name. I hope yours is more helpful than mine. I have never actually spoken to this person, since the phone has never been answered in all the times I've called so I have only e:mail correspondences. As I said, this person has not been at all helpful in correcting a true error on my credit report, and I don't know why. Maybe yours will be better. :) hope so.

Thank you for the information. There is nothing better then hearing from someone going through the experience. Hopefully my experience will be just as easy in the end.

So far lots of frustrations for me as you are feeling as well. Although most of my credits seemed to transfer, I am still trying to rectify a couple things to no avail. My academic advisor never answers the phone and has not answered my e:mails since last week. I don't want to go into all the details here but that is what I am going through now. In addition, tonight I tried to register for classes starting on Aug 13th and all I got was an error message which states i do not have all the prerequisites completed (even though my course map says I did). So, I couldn't register. UGH!! If this is any indication of what this program is all about, it is going to be bad. Now I have to contact my advisor to manually register me and that will be yet another battle.

That does sound weird. I hope it works out for the best. I am planning way in advance, but I want some answers ahead of time.
