We have reviewed & analyzed the top 3 NCLEX prep courses on the market: Hurst, Kaplan, and ATI.

After reading this post you'll have a better idea how each course is conducted, and which NCLEX prep course is better for you:

Hurst Review

Hurst was created and run by real RN's. The program is offered both online & live classroom review for a very reasonable price.

Many nursing students are praising Hurst for its method of Simplifying an intense nursing science into an easy-to-understand material.

Hurst narrows down the hundreds of hours worth of nursing school content and simplifies the need-to-know information into a short 3-day course, or online access for 90 days.

Through Hurst's secret strategies, they help reinforce previously learned nursing content, which helps enhance your memory recall on specific topics.

This review course will NOT merely repeat what you learned in nursing classes- It will break down, simplify nursing science and will drill it so well, you'll feel much confident when taking the NCLEX exam. Taking this review course will not only give you the knowledge and confidence you need to pass the NCLEX, but it will also help you become better prepared for the real world, and a better nurse.

With high passing rates, positive praises from nursing students, and a practical course at a reasonable price, Hurst looks like a confident choice.

Kaplan's Review

Kaplan, Inc. is a for-profit organization that offers NCLEX review course among many other services. The Kaplan NCLEX review course is known for its decision tree and question bank (Q bank).

Kaplan claims it came up with a practical method answering NCLEX-style questions using a 5-step framework called The decision tree. And the entire review course consists of videos that break down and answer NCLEX-style questions using the decision tree.

Although there is an additional extensive library of videos & study materials, it is used for self-study, and not part of the review time.

Though some might find the decision tree helpful, many students report it to be impractical since it cannot answer all types of questions effectively, and especially impossible if you lack the knowledge, to begin with. Using the decision tree during exams may also slow down the time it takes to solve the questions.

Kaplan's strongest feature is the large Qbank. Many people choose Kaplan's review so that they can use the famous Qbank. With Kaplan's Qbank, a student can practice questions, read the rationales, and track progress. However, few people know it is available for a monthly price as little as 20$/month.

Despite their large accessible inventory of study resources, many find it the content videos long & tedious.

For the price of $500, the impractical decision tree, a library of 300+ videos, and voices of disappointed students. Kaplan's NCLEX review seems quite pricey.

ATI's Review

Like Kaplan, ATI's is a big company that offers many products for both nursing schools & students.

ATI's NCLEX review provides a live class review- which is a 3-4 day long, and consist of a content overview and practicing questions.

ATI's featured review is the Virtual NCLEX review, which is 6-12 weeks online review with an instructor. The instructor will build a study plan based on your initial assessment test scores and will open access to further topics and tests based on your progress. Communication with the instructor is available via ATI's chat and email.

ATI also offers a large content library with videos & Qbank, as well as practice tests with reports, to track student's progress.

It makes sense to use ATI if you already signed up for it via your school or if one-on-one” type of class appeals to you. There are mixed reviews regarding the Virtual Review effectiveness, some find it helpful, some not so much.

Many find ATI's video database overwhelming and not optimized. There are some reports of inconsistency between content, and even misleading information.
