I am currently in Miami, FL back from a 4 month travel/improve Spanish sabbatical. I was a nurse on a Progressive care unit in Colorado. I have a little more than a year of experience, but I excelled in the critical care setting and would like to continue in this area of nursing. I left the hospital because patient safety was becoming an issue as the hospital owners changed hands and many changes were implicated that made ALL of the nurses feel as if the work environment was unsafe. This was proven when the recent safety reports were released and my hospital received a D grade in patient safety. My family is in South Florida and I decided that I would like to stay here to be closer to them. In order to transfer my CO license there are many steps that need to be taken, and much time involved. There are many jobs posted, however I am hearing reports that the job market is tough down here, and considering I have the minimum of 1 year requirement, I am concerned that my efforts will not produce results. I know I have a job to return to back in CO, but as I stated, I don't feel it is a safe environment, and I value my license. So, after a lengthy introduction, my question to anyone who may have first hand experience is: Is it realistic for someone with a year of critical care experience to find a job in South Florida within a couple of months?
