Thinking about traveling to San Antonio, TX

I was thinking about traveling to San Antonio, Texas to work at a local BMT unit next summer, but I'm unfamiliar with the area. I was wondering if anyone had any information regarding the different facilities out there. All comments are welcomed.

Okay, I don't know what BMT means, but I did work for Nursefinders in San antonio for several years.

It's a great city, and I wish I hadn't had to leave.

the Methodist family is a good place to work. Most of the people I graduated with from UTHSCSA went to work there and are still there. Baptist is known for poor standards of patient care and I remember the nurses at Santa rosa having 12 patients on the med/surg floor when we were there for clinicals

I am agency - had a long contract with Baptist - and it ended in late spring. They did not renew. They are having extreme problems with very low census - and have also - I've been told - recently hired around 200 new nurses from the Phillipines. Baptist Main - downtown - has closed three floors and the others are having problems as well. But I've also been told that summer in San Antonio is like this for almost all the hospitals. Should be picking up.

Heard only good things about the Methodist system.

And if the temperature here would finally get below 100 degrees - it would be a fun city to visit!

San Antonio is a gret city IMO. I have lived here all of my life. Great people, great food, and great weather...if you like HOT. I am still a nursing student and my clinicals have been at Methodist facilities. I have also recently been a patient at the main Methodist. The nurses I have worked with really seem to totally enjoy what they are doing. The nurses I had as a patient were all wonderful too. I was on a GYN floor and the ratio was 4:1. I have only heard good things about methodist and am planning on working there when I graduate. Best of luck.

San Antonio, Texas - great city, lots to do - I spent 3 months at Southwest General in the NICU on a travel assignment. BAD choice Most nights I was the only experienced RN. I cared for a HFOV baby 3 nights in a row, on the 4th night (my night off) the "experienced" charge nurse decided she would take the HFOV assignment because she had read up on HFOV's. This same nurse gave a med push through a Dopamine line to a 900 gm baby. Don't go to Southwest General if you value your license.:nono:

Just wandering where you are moving from. I moved over here end of December 2005 from DFW area. So far so good!
