Thinking of moving from NY to Florida Need Help

Published

Hi guys my fiancé and I are discussing moving to Florida. I currently have 7 years experience as an RN with a combination of L&D experience and pediatric emergency room experience. We have been going back and forth about the move because a couple of people that have moved to Florida from NY. Have ended up moving back. I know that it would be a pay cut to move to Florida but when I look up average pay I never find a concrete number. Is there anybody from NY who has made the move? Would you recommend moving to Florida? If so which areas would you think is best for raising a family and great job potentials ? Feeling conflicted have lived in NY my entire life but I also feel it's time for a change. Help

There are websites that list average pay for each state. NY is $36.63 and FL is $29.70. That's a drop.

Florida is a big state with a number of large metro areas. Depending on where you want to move to, the salary will vary. What I can say is in Brevard county the starting salary for brand new RN's is $20/hr. I know plenty of RN's with 5 years experience making $25/hr. The hospitals are low payers because they know they have a steady stream of people moving to FL.

Also think about the cost of living, just because we don't get snow doesn't mean you have no utility costs. Electric is expensive and because the average home/apartment is poorly insulated the costs to keep it cool in the summer add up quick.
